Now that we have Vinnie-Man in our lives, exploration of the island has become quite a lovely experience. The dvd player occupies cranky children, the big side windows allows them to see more of the sights as we pass by, and the big captain's chairs keep Mommy and Daddy comfortable as we traverse to and fro.
Yesterday after Daddy got home from work, we ate some lunch and piled into VM and headed east. We ended up as far east as we could go in a place called Orient Point. There are no freeways to get there, so we drove through tiny village after tiny village, all separated by farms and vineyards. We saw a bunch of great farm stands to buy local fresh produce and at one point Emma needed to pee so we stopped off at a vineyard and let the kids run up and down the rows of grapes. They were laughing and screaming and giggling and running and falling and being silly - all the things little kids should be and it was awesome.
We found a bunch of great old towns that were begging for us to stop and enjoy, and we will look forward to doing just that this summer. Most of them have buildings or parks or cemeteries that are historical sites with dates like 1717 on the signs. We love reading the history behind them and it will be fun to explore them for real. We were in the car for a good 5 hours and no meltdowns from either child. No potty accidents either. Hooray!
